Shotokan Karate of America adheres to the original 5 degrees of blackbelt set forth by Master Funakoshi. To compare levels with other styles/organizations find the highest degree of that style possible and consider that as equal to 5th dan in SKA. Obtaining any black belt rank in SKA is a highly quality controlled matter only done under the direction of Mr.Tsutomu Oshima, Shihan and founder of SKA.
